Hockey for Hospice
It was in September 1992, that a 21-year-old employee of Tim Beaulieu's complained of a cold that just would not go away. By February of the following year, this bubbly young lady passed away. From that day forward, Tim made a personal commitment to do something in her memory every year.
And so, Hockey For Hospice began....
The first year, Tim and Janet Beaulieu started a Skate-a-thon in memory of their dear friend and colleague. Over the next few years, the Beaulieu's, along with Paul Pietraszko and Al Broadbent, and some dedicated volunteers helped the Skate-a-thon evolve into Hockey For Hospice.
Hockey For Hospice is an annual event (in its 27th year), held every year from December 27th to December 29th. The tournament hosts approximately 2,000 young hockey players annually, ranging from ages 4-14, at a number of local arenas. Each of the players collect pledges from friends and family, and to date, they have raised more than $4.7 million for Hospice. Hockey For Hospice not only allows children to take part in a fun, well-organized hockey tournament, it also teaches them the importance of giving back to their community from a young age. The Hockey for Hospice Committee is made up of dedicated volunteers who work year-round to ensure a fabulous event and are always looking for opportunities to grow and improve.
Each year the Hockey For Hospice Committee strives to see this event equal or surpass previous successes and continue to honour the memory of their young friend.
