Lilian Forsyth Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to foster excellence in the music of Christian worship. Since Lilian Forsyth was an exponent of the tradition of classical church music, the scholarship is aimed at persons pursuing a career in church music or actively involved in music directly related to the worship of the Christian community. This will include organists, choir directors, composers, and other musicians. It is preferable that such candidates should have completed their basic musical training. References must be submitted in all cases.

Lilian Forsyth (1911-1982)

Lilian Forsyth was a brilliant musician who devoted herself to the music of worship. For nearly fifty years, her selfless enthusiasm was felt in many musical organizations both in Ottawa and across the country.

In 1967, she was chosen as one of six organists to play at Expo. In 1977, the Royal Canadian College of Organists recognized her contribution by awarding her an Honorary Fellowship. Above all, it was as Director of Music at Knox Church, where she applied her talents as organist and choir director.

On her retirement in 1981, Knox Church established the Lilian Forsyth Scholarship as a tribute to her life and work
