About Scholarship

The Louise Russo Youth Awards recognize youth that exemplify the 3R’s – Respect, Responsibility and the Role of leadership through initiatives that reduce violence in their communities. The Award celebrates and honours the qualities that are important in making our communities a safe place to live, learn and play.

These individuals took the initiative to organize direct outreach and networking activities that focused on the 3R’s – Respect, Responsibility and the Role of leadership, to create a safer place to live, learn and play.

The day’s activities culminate with some exceptional young people receiving five (5) Youth Awards (individuals or teams) and three (3) Leadership Awards, attended by their peers, teachers and corporate sponsors. To date we have recognized (93) Youth and Leadership Awards in the form of a bursary towards the student’s education or program initiative.

We believe that promoting and recognizing youth initiatives provides inspiration to us all.

About Company

Louise Russo W.A.V.E. (Working Against Violence Everyday) works diligently at inspiring youth and members of the community to take action, make positive choices and initiate projects that will make their schools and communities a safer place to live, learn and play.

The organization encourages community and business leaders, educators, students and organizations to come together and take a visible stand against violence in their communities by recognizing youth that exemplify the 3R’s – Respect, Responsibility and the Role of leadership through initiatives that promotes positive behaviour.

Youth, between the ages of 12 to 19, presently enrolled in school or an educational program, who have made a difference, are encouraged to submit applications for a Louise Russo Youth or Leadership Award. Every year our charity issues five (5) Youth Awards (individuals or teams) and three (3) Leadership Awards. To date we have given out over 100 Awards in the form of bursaries towards the student’s education or program initiative.

Each year we are encouraged by the increase of youth award applications that are received. Not just from Ontario, but across Canada. Since 2006 Louise Russo has visited over many schools in the GTA and surrounding area, touching the lives of some 100,000 students by sharing her story as a victim of violence, the effects of violence on the victim and the family, and how she has moved forward with her life. In so doing she has spread the word about our charitable organization, Louise Russo W.A.V.E., its mission and goals.

Continuing to work with a variety of partners and professionals, Louise and her mainly volunteer organization has garnered some powerful respect and support from such dignitaries as Toronto Mayor John Tory, and The Honourable Roy McMurtry, Former Chief Justice of Ontario.

Through learning about our mission and goals, students, teachers, community workers and families alike have created a ripple effect of how we can all, ‘one-by-one’ make a positive difference in our lives and that of the community.
