Volunteer Experience WORK SMART. PLAY HARD. GIVE BACK.
A key aspect of Govan Brown’s corporate culture and mantra is to GIVE BACK, which is why every year we are excited to award deserving students a $5,000 leadership scholarship. At Govan Brown, we are committed to building a culture of leadership and belonging that empowers all employees to do their best work. While the scholarship is OPEN TO ALL full-time penultimate and final-year students enrolled in construction-related programs at the institutions listed above, preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or Persons of Color). Our goal is to ensure a brighter future for our industry and to create new pathways to construction for underrepresented communities.
Who You Are:
“The GB Futures Award really helped kickstart my career by allowing me to gain hands-on experience and mentorship that bridged the gap between academic learning and real-world construction management. Through the co-op experience (and now full-time employment), GB has strengthened my abilities to adapt, stay organized, and handle challenges confidently. The mentorship and exposure to a variety of project challenges helped me refine both technical and interpersonal skills, preparing me for bigger responsibilities. Altogether, these experiences have helped me grow both personally and professionally, and have given me a solid foundation for my future in construction.”
- Tupac, Past Futures Award Winner

Established in 1994, Govan Brown has been servicing the construction market for over 30 years. In that time, our team has completed numerous projects ranging from complex corporate and retail interiors to core and shell, base build and repositioning projects. We pride ourselves on consistently delivering quality results and working collaboratively with all project stakeholders for each project.
Govan Brown’s values are best summarized in our company mantra: Work Smart. Play Hard. Give Back. The importance of each component in equal measures speaks to our identity as a company and is something that is instilled in our employees from their introduction to our family. The message is clear: while we’re committed to bringing the commercial interior dreams of our clients to fruition, we also know how to unwind and have a good time. We believe in building better communities – and that starts in our own backyard with our people. Everyone at GB is important and valued, and we foster a sense of belonging through our commitment to staying connected. Whether it’s through our annual summer and holiday parties or neighbourhood clean-up, we live and breathe these core values through action.
What makes Govan Brown unique is that we seek out people who not only are experts in their fields but also have an innate curiosity and thirst for knowledge. We look for industry leaders who have an open mind and proactively look for solutions and expansion to their skillset by asking questions. With this in mind, our workplace fosters a culture of learning through an open-door policy and receptive ear to any and all inquiries – no question is too obvious or too complex. We believe in challenging conventions and paving the way forward through a safe work environment that breeds creativity and excellence.
