From a young age we are taught to follow our dreams and live life to the fullest, but what happens when our dreams don’t align with what’s expected of us or is not “practical” in the eyes of others? Sometimes we are stuck at a crossroads where we have to decide between choosing a career that provides a safe route and a career that brings us deep profound joy.
About Scholarship
This scholarship aims to help those individuals who have chosen the route of deep profound joy knowing that it may come with obstacles and hardships. This scholarship is to go to an individual who has chosen a “non-traditional career” that does not come with a clear path to success, forcing you to carve your own path and definition of success. The ideal candidate is one who is able to describe why they consider their career choice to be unconventional and against the grain, and why they decided to pursue it anyway.
Empathic Counselling Centre has worked with many young women from Scarborough facing crossroads in their choice of career and often have challenges in making these decisions. Some women express interest in pursuing challenging careers that can take years to solidify through many years of schooling, others express interest in working in the trades industry. Some women would like to heavily pursue the arts through fashion or dancing, while others would like a career that enables them to travel regularly. These women have trouble pursuing these goals as they are considered “non-traditional” and risky and often lack financial and emotional support as they go through their respective education and work experiences.
Empathic Counselling Centre would like to provide support to these women who welcome these challenges simply because they have decided to follow their passion and dreams.
